Elder Care Tips
Tip #1
If an aging parent begins to eat poorly or skip meals, it may mean she has become insecure about going out alone and doesn't shop for food as often as she should, or she may be too tired to fix dinner. The resulting poor nutrition leads to further loss of energy and physical problems.
Tip #2
If you have an aging parent still living at home you might consider the following to make their home a safer place to live:
Add handrails and guard rails
Get an emergency response system for their home
Add adequate lighting
Remove scatter rugs and minimize clutter
Add bathroom grab bars
Tip #3
Your parent may no longer be able to live alone if they display some of the following:
Trouble grocery shopping
Difficulty cooking, eating, or using appliances safely
Less frequent or poor house cleaning
Difficulty bathing
Poor mobility
Needs help dressing
Cannot drive car or use public transportation safely
Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
Neglected appearance
Lethargy or apathy
Any other drastic change in routine
